French Canadians Living in Ferrisburgh, VT in 1850: #12 Adeline Greenough née Dupras

vermont 2016

Adeline Greenough née Dupras is listed in the 1850 US Census for Ferrisburgh. She is referred to as Adaline Green on Page 295 (stamped-left page), Line 13, Household 11, with the following persons listed, respectively, on lines 12 and 14 and 15:

  • John Green
  • John Green Jr
  • Lewis Green

John is Adeline’s husband, born in Vermont, and the others are their children, John Jr and Lewis, both born in Vermont. According to the 1900 US Census, the couple had 9 children, 5 of whom were still alive then. The couple was married in 1848, most probably in Vermont (no record found yet). Although John Sr was born in Vermont, he is of French Canadian ancestry. His name in the Catholic Repertoire is Jean-Baptiste Grignon. His ancestry should be a fun puzzle to resolve.

It is interesting to note that living close by is Adeline’s sister, Sophia Pratt, married to John Mitchell.

Adeline died in Essex, VT, on December 24, 1914. Here are her obituary and funeral notice:
