40 Days | Day 3 | St. Louis, Missouri

IMG_5619Before stopping by its Research Center, I thought of going to the Missouri History Museum but at the last minute, I sat on the fence as I was a bit tired. Then I got a tweet from Liz Loveland and off I went to pick her up at her hotel for a quick visit to the museum. If you haven’t seen it and plan to come to St. Louis, keep that one on your list. Two majors reasons: it is free and it has plenty of exhibits for every taste—Route 66, The Little Black Dress (mourning dress for us genealogy and history buffs) and the 1904 World Fair.

At noon, Liz and I were at the Research Center and we had a full afternoon. She made great discoveries while I was scanning some of the American Fur Trade Ledgers. I also photographed all the contracts relating to the Tourvilles’ from St. Louis Archives (during the French and Spanish Regime). The quality of the documents is excellent and moreover, they are all in French (I worried some might be in Spanish). All this will keep me busy this winter. Tomorrow, I will do the same for the members of the extended family (Roussel, Caillou, etc.).

The archivist on-site pointed me to such many other great resources for the Tourvilles, I do not know where to begin. But wait… I am not supposed to tell you everything yet, right?

In the meantime, here are some pictures from the exhibitions seen today at the Museum. Enjoy!
