Louis Tourville (1831-1896) ~ Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, cote P1000, S4, D83, PT57

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec is always adding images to its Website. Everytime I check for Tourvilles, I find something new!

This is a portrait of Louis Tourville, who was an important businessman in the 19th century. His father, Joseph Tourville, who passed away in 1832 only a few days before Louis’ sister’s Adéline’s birth, was the first Montrealer of our family. Louis was one of the founders of the Banque d’Hochelaga in 1873 (National Bank of Canada). Also a politician, he was appointed to the Legislative Council of Québec for the Liberal Party in 1888. The Legislative Council has since been abolished. It was the equivalent of the Federal Senate.

No doubt this man will be featured in future posts, I am still finding lots of notary acts for him in the Archives!
